Take care of each other

November 9th, 2016

A lot of people had a bad night last night due to the presidential election in the US. If you or someone you know is having a particularly hard time today, please seek immediate help by calling the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255.

The sad fact is that while many had a bad night last night, millions of people are struggling with some form of mental health issue have bad nights (and days) quite often. Please talk to someone. Speak to your significant other, a co-worker, a friend, a doctor, but please find someone to talk to. You're not alone, and support is out there.

Not sure where to start? We have compiled a list of many mental health resources: https://osmihelp.org/resources

Take care of each other.

OSMI Approved as 501(c)(3) Organization

September 22nd, 2016

OSMI Approved as 501(c)(3) Organzation

We're even more official! Today, we receieved a letter from the IRS informing us our application for exemption from federal income tax under Internal Revenue Code (IRC) Section 501(c)(3) has been approved.

We are now an officially recognized 501(c)(3) Nonprofit. We will be able to seek out grant opportunities, as well as tax-deductible contributions. Also, future donations will be tax deductible under IRC Section 170. We have a few logistical things we're working on, such as setting up our bank account and getting our finances in order.

We're estatic that we were approved so quickly and we would like to thank all of our donors and sponsors. We wouldn't be here without every one of you. Thanks for the continued support!

OSMI Applies for 501(c)(3) Status

September 7th, 2016

We want to give everyone a quick update on our nonprofit process. This morning Ed filed our 1023-EZ form that is our official application for 501©(3) nonprofit status.

What does this mean? Beside us being about $275 lighter, we are still not an “Official Nonprofit” according to the Federal Government, although we are still a nonprofit corporation in the state of Indiana. We should expect a response in 90 days (probably less). The response will either be a letter stating our application was approved or a request for more information.

For now, we’re just waiting on a response.

Thanks to everyone that has donated to OSMI. You’re the reason we’re able to do these things, and we have a lot cool things in the planning stages. If you would like to volunteer to help please send an email to [email protected] and we’ll get you into our ultra exclusive (not at all) Slack channel.

If you would like to donate you can still do that here: osmihelp.org/donate

We're official!

Articles of Incorporation

One of our stretch goals from our latest fundraising effort was to form an official nonprofit. Before you can apply for 501 status you have to first start your nonprofit at the local level. Yesterday (August 17th, 2016), we formed a nonprofit corporation in the state of Indiana. We also applied for (and received) an EIN number from the IRS. The official name of the organization is "Open Sourcing Mental Health Ltd". Our next step is to file for 501 status which we will be doing in the very near future. We'll keep you updated as we proceed through the application process.

As an official nonprofit we have a board of directors that are in charge of the governing of the organization. Ed Finkler will be serving as the chairman of the board. The board members of Open Sourcing Mental Health Ltd are as follows: Jennifer Akullian, Joe Ferguson, Gary Hockin, and Jenn Turner.

We would like to thank all of our volunteers, supporters, donators, and everyone who has helped spread the word about OSMI. You all have had a major impact in what we have been able to do so far and we're excited about where we're going from here.
